A seat at the table: Shaping journalism in Pittsburgh

For over 200 years, the Tribune-Review has been the pulse of this region—from the steel mills of our past to the tech hubs of our future. But as Pittsburgh evolves, so must the way we tell its story. We believe that for journalism to be truly local, it can’t simply report on the community —it must grow from within it.

That’s why we are proud to announce the launch of the Pittsburgh Community Advisory Panel. We’re seeking bold thinkers, curious minds, and dedicated neighbors to help us cultivate a more inclusive, representative voice for the City of Champions.

Why this matters

The Pittsburgh of 2026 is a mosaic of 90 neighborhoods, world-class universities, and a booming innovation sector. However, we recognize that certain stories still go untold, and certain perspectives remain unheard.

We are creating a seat at the table for those who represent the true spirit of Pittsburgh:

  • Students who are the next generation of leadership;
  • Business owners who drive our local economy;
  • Diverse voices across race, identity, and background;
  • Community advocates who understand the daily rhythm of their neighborhoods.

The Commitment:
An 18-month journey

This isn’t a one-time focus group. We’re building a cohort of ambassadors who are deeply invested in the long-term health and vitality of local news.

  • Duration: A fixed 18-month term to allow for deep collaboration and measurable impact.
  • Monthly connection: Meaningful connection meeting every other month to discuss current events and editorial direction.
  • Quarterly strategy: Four in-person meetings over 18 months to build community and dive deep into long-form projects.
  • Community presence: Serve as a bridge between the Trib and your neighborhood, identifying the “quiet” stories that deserve a loud platform.
  • Editorial voice: Members will have opportunities to write op-eds and guest columns, sharing their perspectives directly with our 3.5 million monthly readers.

What you’ll help accomplish

As a member of this panel, you’ll play an important role in keeping us thoughtful, responsive, and grounded. You’ll help us test our assumptions, suggest new areas of coverage, and reimagine what meaningful impact looks like today. Most importantly, you’ll serve as a trusted bridge between our newsroom and the lived experiences of communities across Allegheny County.

“A city is only as strong as the stories it tells itself. This panel is our commitment to making sure those stories belong to everyone.” — Tribune-Review Editorial Board
